Paul Mitchell The Conditioner – is it The One?

I bought a new product and I’m obsessed.

A close friend and hairdresser has been recommending that I buy Paul Mitchell The Conditioner for years. Why has it taken me years to buy it? It’s a leave-in conditioner, and I’ve got loads of those already. Why would I need one more? My friend told me that this is amazing and so good that you can even use it to shave your legs because it has a lot of slip! I would laugh, add it to a list of things to buy and then forget about it until the next time I saw him.

A couple of months ago, I wanted a new product to excite me, and this popped into my mind. FINALLY, I ordered it.

What’s the name of this product? It’s called Paul Mitchell The Conditioner.

What is it?

Paul Mitchell The Conditioner is a leave-in conditioner for application on wet hair.

What does it do?

It smoothes hair, prevents dryness and balances moisture. It contains Hawaiian Awapuhi, which is part of the ginger family. Awapuhi has anti-inflammatory properties and is beneficial to both your scalp and hair. It helps to repair the hair and protect it from damage, containing 19 of the 22 amino acids also present in our hair.

Is Paul Mitchell The Conditioner worth buying?

Yes! First of all, it works. It has excellent conditioning power and smoothes hair whilst still being lightweight.

My hair feels moisturised and hardly takes any styling at all. This has become my one-stop shop for low-maintenance hair styling. I write this in the middle of a London heatwave when anything but minimal styling and air-drying seems impossible.

Since I started to use this, I haven’t looked back. My gratitude has been expressed to my hairdresser friend mentioned above. He’s a legend, and I should have listened to him from the beginning. Thanks, Andrew.

Paul Mitchell The Conditioner is also lightweight. You can’t feel it in your hair at all. I’ll tell you what, though. I can certainly tell when I haven’t used it!

The smell and colour struck me straight away. It is bright blue! The Paul Mitchell product line was created in the 1980s, and I like to think that the colour of the product is a little nod to this.

As if that wasn’t enough, it also smells exactly like I imagine an ‘80s salon would smell. Very ‘hair-producty’, if you know what I mean? I love this smell.

Who is it best for?

The official recommendations (and directions)  are pretty minimal. It is for ‘All Hair Types,’ and then curly hair, coarse hair, damaged hair, colour-treated hair, fine hair, oily hair, frizzy hair, straight hair, and wavy hair all get a mention.

The lightweight yet maturing properties of this leave-in make it ideally suited for most hair types.

How to use it for the best results

‘Apply a small amount to clean, damp hair,’ says the bottle. So I do! Although I like to add my own touch…

First of all, I add it to wet hair when it is freshly washed. I mean, when it is pretty much dripping wet. I like to squish some in at this point and get that great squelching sound.

Then I plop my hair in a microfiber towel for about 10 mins and add in another small dollop before I air-dry or diffuse.

What goes on at the brand?

Paul Mitchell was set up over 40 years ago as a hair brand for professionals. They are big on sustainability, and their signature Awapuhi ingredient is harvested on their own farm located in Hawaii. The brand is also cruelty-free.

This fab Vogue article tells a little more about the history of the Paul Mitchell brand.

I hope you love Paul Mitchell The Conditioner as much as I do!
