Do you get what you pay for? Are some products actually worth investing a little more in? There are plenty of fantastic reasonably priced products for curly hair but what if you’re after a treat or want to spend a little more?

Here are my top picks for cult curly hair products that are definitely worth the extra spend..

Davines Curl Building Serum

davines cult curl building serum

I have a whole post dedicated to this one! My go-to styling product ever since I first laid my hands on it.

It literally does BUILD curls. The more you scrunch and work it in, the more it achieves. It’s perfect for enhancing a looser wave/curl pattern.

My favourite feature? It blocks humidity. It REALLY does. Mist/humidity has no effect on my styling and it lasts for days!

Best for curl types: 2A – 3A

Curlsmith Feather-Light Protein Cream

curlsmith protein curl cream

Curlsmith products are pretty much always winners, but this one has an added benefit..a protein boost for your hair. If you colour/bleach your hair or have previously used any kind of heat, it’s likely that your hair will benefit from regular protein.

It contains high levels of hydrolyzed rice protein (this is why you should only use hydrolyzed protein on your hair)

This cream has a medium level of hold. It contains great conditioning ingredients (like sweet almond oil) that make it a perfect first layer on wet hair. Its moisturising properties mean that it can be used as an alternative to leave-in conditioner. I have even used this as a styler before a straight blow-out.

It also smells amazing.

Best for curl types: 3A-4C

Aveda Nutri Plenish Leave-In Conditioner

aveda leave-in conditioner for curly hair

This is one of my TOP curl products. In fact, it isn’t just for curly hair, I think everyone should invest in this one!

The spray formula means that it is lightweight and won’t weigh down any hair type, even fine hair. It’s a leave-in conditioner and will moisturise your hair as a first step before adding styling products.

It also protects. Aveda-Nutri-Plenish contains UV filters AND heat protection.

This product can be used as a refresh spray between washes, too.

What’s not to love?

Bumble and Bumble Bb Curl Reactivator

bumble and bumble curl reactivator spray

I have used this spray since long before I knew what I was doing with my hair. This is one that I just KNEW worked. I could tell that it reworked and moisturised my hair in between washes. It has never disappointed me (even when they changed the formula recently – luckily it isn’t noticeable).

I spray it on dry hair, scrunch ad diffuse the area and my hair is BACK.

You can also use it as a priming spray before styling products after washing.

This lightweight spray contains an impressive list of active ingredients that include avocado oil, coconut oil, jojoba seed oil, cocoa seed butter, shea butter AND hydrolyzed wheat protein.

It contains UV filters, too.

Best for curl types: 2C-3C

Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask

olaplex moisture mask for curly hair

Most of the Olaplex range has benefits for curly hair and damaged/bleached curly hair in particular. I have chosen the mask because it has moisturising benefits as well as the active Olaplex ingredient, making it a great choice for dry curls. All curly hair can benefit from extra moisture.

Here we have avocado oil as one of the key moisturising ingredients and Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, the active Olaplex ingredient. It does contain dimethicone, but is this really a problem?

Unlike Olaplex No. 3 you use No. 8 as you would any other mask, after you have shampooed and not before, making it easier to fit into your regular routine.

It works well for all hair types, I’ve been using it for a couple of months and I love it!

Best for curl types: 2A-4C
